ORION 7 VIDEO GAME CAMPAIGN

Orion 7 is a design created for a fictional horror video game, focusing heavily on late 1980s, early 90s VHS and analog aesthetics. The main design mission was to recreate the aesthetics of these late 80s TV station IDs and graphics, and then add a touch of unease or horror. The target audience for this design is for video game players, as this is a horror game it would apply to the ‘mature’ audience range, 17 years and older. Horror fans and gamers are the primary audience for Orion 7. The main design is essentially a television station ID from a fictitious TV Station called Orion 7. VHS overlay text is used here to imply the older nature of the design, as if this was a recording found in an old box of VHS tapes.

This design is used in advertising ways a video game would typically use, such as a physical video game case and a poster. The main idea is this game would be marketed in a typical fashion to an ARG (alternate reality game), where it is marketed as if this was a real TV Station and doesn’t outright give away the truth of its horror video game nature until someone has investigated further. One of the challenges of this design was keeping to this discreet advertising style while at the same time making it creepy and unsettling enough to sell the atmosphere the game would provide.
