APOLLO SERIES

The goals involved with creating the Apollo design was to create a simple minimalist aesthetic with few colors. The design refers to NASA’s Apollo, Gemini, and Mercury space programs, through its typeface, used frequently in NASA’s own designs and many to follow. The mission is to create a simple design, intended for a younger audience who are interested in Space and the history of American Spaceflight. The demographic range for this would be children to college students, and anyone interested in space and related topics. Using the simplest of shapes, spheres, the design gives the impression of stars and celestial bodies, as well as the perception of depth through its subtle gradient, giving the impression of a vast void.

The type, “Apollo” acts as a metaphorical rocket, a bright cylinder in the dark hues of space. This design is then used on T-shirts in three colorations. The plan for distribution would be at several NASA related locations, found in gift shops as memorabilia. A challenge when incorporating the design into these mediums was the cut off points the poster didn’t show. As a result many spheres are no longer incomplete and exist in their entirety on the various mediums.
