KEITH'S HOMEMADE BBQ SAUCE

The goal of this design was to create a barbecue sauce brand, and design for the brand's products. The appearance was designed to embody the aesthetic smoked food, wood, and western feel the brand would encompass were key ingredients in this design. The target audience of this design were barbecue lovers, people who love to cook, grill, and just want some good BBQ sauce. The logic behind many of the design choices were to appeal to those key parts of the design aesthetic. A slab serif font was chosen to harken the viewer back to a western or country style, a typical font, or one that has become synonymous with that culture.

A rough texture is chosen for the background, visually similar to a wood cutting board, or rough terrain, giving the indication the sauce is more of an outdoor grilling experience than an indoor dining one. The appearance is also designed to appear local, “Keith’s homemade” to state that this sauce is coming from real hands, rather than a soulless factory. The challenge of this design was to set rules that could be used in further series, rather than just a one-off product. The use of the band of color with the word “Original” used to signify that this brand comes in multiple flavors and styles, such as the Jalapeno flavor displayed on the gallon jug. The mediums this design is applied on is of course a BBQ sauce bottle, a gallon jug for restaurants and other places that would need large sizes, and packaging boxes for large quantities, either bought by grocery stores or sold directly to consumers.
